General Summary:

This is a hybrid opportunity, defined as a work environment that combines remote work and in-office work. This allows employees to have the flexibility to work from both home and the office, striking a balance that suits individual preferences and job responsibilities. Additionally, it promotes collaboration, work-life balance, and diversity of thought. 2 in-office days per week can be at either our Portland, ME or Chattanooga, TN, locations.

The Partner Relationship Director role is a pivotal position within Unum's Partner Relations department. We are seeking a seasoned professional who thrives on building lasting relationships, promoting engagement, and driving awareness of our broker partnerships and Ben Tech/HCM platform. This role is ideal for a motivated self-starter who is sales-savvy, proactive, and passionate about creating meaningful connections.

Primary responsibilities include developing and managing key Ben Tech/HCM partner relationships with a focus on key Ben Tech/HCM firms that will help drive growth. This role will co-develop and implement plans that proactively enhance external management level partnerships, facilitate discussions around strategic alignment, and remove barriers that do not support sales growth. The incumbent will also be responsible for partnering with various Home Office and Field Leaders to drive Corporate Business Objectives and National sales Goals utilizing strong collaboration and persuasion skills. This role will specifically focus on the partnership with UKG.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in the group insurance or similar industry preferred; added plus knowledge of the insurtech marketplace and emerging trends.

  • Experience in employee benefit sales both at the retail level and or wholesale level preferred

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with internal departments to oversee partnership operational connections.

  • Proven credibility with internal sales force and HR/Ben Tech firms

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – both in presentation style with large groups, leadership and informally with smaller groups

  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically.

  • Drive, self-motivation, a consultative nature and be a great problem solver.

  • Proven ability to negotiate, influence, and persuade with internal and external partners.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and influence/drive partner strategies.

  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people,

  • Strong relationship management/conflict management skills

  • Proven success in a complex business role

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills Must possess a positive, professional company image to external customers.

  • Ability to travel (estimated 10%)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direction on Platform capability roadmap. The incumbent will be responsible for partnering with Product owners, IT, and business areas to ensure capabilities are meeting market needs.

  • Responsible for relationship with UKG/Workday/Ben Tech/HCM company. This includes executive level relationships that are key to the relationship.

  • Develop “Go to Market” strategy with key stakeholders to promote awareness and engagement with brokers and the Ben Tech/HCM platform.

  • Drive activities and cost benefit analysis to guide Sales partners towards profitable sales growth and results and provide ongoing updates to Sr Leadership Team.

  • Partner with Marketing to ensure a strong presence at both Partner conferences and industry conferences, as needed.

  • Lead strategy sessions designed to identify, develop and deploy capabilities that drive sales growth and move the relationship from a partnership to an alliance.

  • Design and implement initiatives in support of improved persistency and participation.

  • Partner with Client Success teams and key field partners to ensure we are finding ways to improve client experience as well as operating efficiency.

  • Communicate consistently with national/Ben Tech/HCM contacts as well as local representatives.

  • Leveraging internal partners, develop and execute on training opportunities with Partner(s) focused on delivering the Unum message, new products, and enhancing relationships at the national and local level.

  • Monitor results of partners and develop actions to ensure results are on track.

  • Partner with sales offices/sales training to communicate partner updates, initiatives and implement plans to drive market activity. (Including key HR/ Ben Tech platforms- UKG, HR Connect, WorkDay)

  • Support the product areas for new product development, providing ongoing feedback and expertise as it relates to your assigned Partner(s).

  • Work with home office and external partners to appropriately analyze and allocate marketing expenses and service fees.

  • Develop and implement an effective, consistent, and repeatable Partner Management Program.

  • Promote Unum’s capabilities and position of our Ben Tech/HCM value prop to our sales organization and serve as a finalist resource, as needed, to help win business.

  • Maintain awareness of competitive issues, trends, and opportunities in the marketplace

  • Act as a liaison with all internal partners and Ben Tech partners to identify gaps for training and education.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$89,900.00-$161,800.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
