General Summary:

This role is responsible for overseeing strategy, operations, client support, and technology related to Unum’s employer client reporting experience and all component services and capabilities.

The role will ensure that the technology capabilities and roadmaps, operational processes, and client-facing support model related to the client reporting experience are delivered with a focus on Unum’s strategic objectives, current and emerging market expectations, and a wide range of client data, reporting, and analytics needs. The role will partner extensively with DTO, Solutions IT, Field, National Client Group, and Client Success leaders to effectively integrate upstream and downstream processes in achieving these goals.

The role will be accountable for developing a high performing organization through effective talent management and creation of an engaging team culture. The incumbent is responsible for developing and retaining leaders and engaging the entire organization in a way that motivates and inspires high performance.

In alignment with Unum strategy, this position will devise and implement strategic initiatives to continuously improve and evolve the client reporting experience:

• Partner with DTO, Field, and Operational leaders to identify and implement technology and business process solutions that drive ongoing enhancement and transformation of client reporting capabilities and associated data infrastructure.

• Contribute actively to drive technology strategy and roadmap development to expand client reporting technology tools and analytics that address new and emerging market and client needs.

• Drive initiatives designed to improve operating outcomes: CSAT, quality, accuracy, flexibility, scalability, and efficiency.

• Design and develop plans with key milestones and outcomes to drive toward operational strategy objectives (e.g., delivery of accurate, timely, and comprehensive client data; efficient, transparent, automated, and sustainable workflows; client-facing support that increases CSAT, digital adoption, and confident self-service).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end client experience and provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of client reporting and its associated technology and business processes across Unum’s product and service portfolio.

  • Develop strong and collaborative partnerships with senior leaders across the organization to inform and influence investments and advancements in client data and reporting technology, process effectiveness, and client support capabilities.

  • Apply extensive knowledge of operational processes, data infrastructure, and technology solutions to collaborate closely with business and IT leaders across the enterprise to effectively strategize, build, and execute on innovative solutions to complex client data and reporting challenges and opportunities.

  • Drive partnership with IT and DTO teams to provide business sponsorship, direction, and prioritization in the development and execution of the technology and transformation roadmaps and plans that support meeting market and client data needs.

  • Design, develop, and implement strategic business initiatives that expand client reporting capabilities and improve data quality, operational efficiency, process automation, knowledge management, and employer CSAT.

  • Lead an integrated operational function comprised of various teams that design, deliver, and manage all client reporting services, including customize data file feeds requiring Mapper development, support for Unum’s client reporting technology platforms (Cognos, DB2, ODS), and advanced claims and leave analytics and associated technical infrastructure (Teradata, Altryx, Tableau, etc.).

  • Create a high-performing and engaged culture that is client-centric, effectively leverages technology, and is seen as knowledgeable, accountable, and highly responsive.

  • Ensure achievement of key operational outcomes that support responsiveness, quality, and efficiency in the delivery of various client reporting output.

  • Manage work environment, recognition, and talent development; build strong succession and talent bench strength.

  • Implement the right controls, monitoring, and structure to attain goals, meet service standards, and ensure sustainability of operational support processes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree; MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • Broad working knowledge of Unum’s product and service portfolio, including 10+ years of experience with leave, disability, data, and reporting required.

  • Demonstrated strong strategic, data and technology, and critical thinking skills.

  • Exhibit strong leadership and communication skills, including the ability to effectively partner, problem solve, and influence others across a matrix organization.

  • Proven ability to execute across a variety of technology environments and constituents to achieve strong, measurable results.

  • Passion and aptitude for leveraging technology to deliver superior client experiences.

  • Ability to motivate and hold multiple diverse operational teams accountable for delivering results with a balanced view of external, client perspective and internal operating effectiveness.

  • Complete understanding of all aspects of the client reporting experience, including all associated technology and business processes, including knowledge of reporting technical specifications, database infrastructure, data queries, and data mapping.

  • Strong understanding of the external market, including a broad knowledge of client data and reporting needs.

  • Track record for attracting, retaining, and developing talent, including leadership talent.

  • Ability to build a team and implement a long term vision that incorporates both business and technology components.

  • Proficient in cultivating a strong personal internal and external network.

  • Demonstrates strong change leadership skills.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$114,100.00-$205,400.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
